New spy shots suggest Vauxhall is working on a performance-oriented Adam VXR hatchback for the street.

The mildly camouflaged Opel Adam OPC (Vauxhall Adam VXR to us in the UK) prototype sports several changes from the standard car currently on sale. Up front, a new lower air intake has been added below the license plate, while the partially disguised headlights suggest a lighting upgrade. New five-spoke wheels with five bolts suggest more power under hood as do the blue VXR brake calipers similar to those of the Corsa VXR model. Sports suspension lowers the ride height.
While the Adam rally car makes 185 hp from a turbocharged 1.6-litre I-4, powertrain details haven't been revealed for the Adam VXR, but expect more power than the current car's 70-hp 1.2-litrr and 87-100-hp 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder engines. A 185 hp engine, however, would give the Adam VXR about the same power as a Mini Cooper S.
